Sinopsis M.I.B: International + Review
Selama 20 tahun pencarian, Molly (Tessa Thompson) akhirnya berhasil menemukan kantor Men in Black dan membuktikan bahwa dirinya tidaklah gila ketika salah dua agen MIB meneuraliz kedua orang tuanya saat ia kecil. Lulus secara mengejutkan, Agent O (Emma Thompson) menerima Molly sebagai agen percobaan, karena Agent O melihat Molly yang kini dipanggil Agent M memiliki potensi yang cukup menjanjikan.
Tugas pertama Agent M adalah adalah pergi ke London dimana cabang MIB memiliki kemungkinan besar masalah dari dalam. Agent M kemudian dibantu salah satu agen senior terbaik yang nyentrik dan sedikit ceroboh bernama Agent H (Chris Hemsworth). Dimana penyelidikan tersebut menuntun mereka pada senjata terkuat di alam semesta.
Tugas mereka kian lebih berat, karena pimpinan MIB London, Agent T (Liam Neeson) menugaskan mereka untuk menyelamatkan Bumi dari alien jahat yang menginginkan senjata tersebut. Apalagi ada kemungkinan organisasi mereka disusupi mata-mata.
Memang sulit untuk sebuah film sekuel menyaingi atau setidaknya berada sejajar dari film pendahulunya. Tentu itu tugas yang tidaklah muda terutama bagi sutradara F. Gary Gray. Film M.I.B: International dimulai dengan teka-teki dan konsep plot twist mirip M.I.B 3 di awal. Tapi lantas itu tak sepenuhnya berjalan dengan baik.
30 menit pertama saya mencoba sabar apa yang coba disampaikan film ini. Penampilan dan duet Chris Hemsworth dan Tessa Thompson hanya mencoba menghibur tanpa ada tujuan yang mengkerucut. Namun pada dasarnya duet mereka sudah cukup baik untuk leading character. Terkhusus untuk Chris Hemsworth, masih menampilkan akting sok kerennya yang dibalut dengan comedy chop khas dirinya seperti di film Ghostbuster atau Endgame.
Hanya saja penyampaian kisah dan jalan cerita di film ini seolah tak cukup menarik untuk tetap ditonton bahkan sebagai film yang mencoba untuk menghibur. Terlalu banyak sub plot yang berujung pada jalan cerita yang membosankan. Dan itu tak cukup walau dilengkapi dengan plot twist yang sebenarnya masih mudah ditebak. 4/10
